More Info
Ron Dayne came out of high school weighing nearly 300 pounds. He had dreams of being a running back, while recruiters felt he might be better at fullback. Barry Alverez promised Dayne a shot at running back, and the rest is Badger history.
As a freshman, Dayne ran over one thousand yards. By the time he left Wisconsin, he had rushed for over seven thousand yards. That still stands as a college record.
Dayne won the Heisman trophy in 1999, and was a key player in the Rose Bowl victory that same year. It was common knowledge that Dayne would be a high draft pick after his college career ended.
