As a red shirt freshman Mario Goins made his first career start Aug. 30th at Akron making an instant impact with four tackles. Goins also made contributions in ten other games as a Kick Returner and Defensive Back. Prep football in Texas prepared him for the physical play of the Big Ten as he earned all state honorable mention honors in as a senior in 2006. A multi sport athlete he also lettered in golf and soccer.
