John clay is another one of the Badgers that contribute to their always potent running attack. Clay is a Wisconsin product and attended Washington Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin. Clay was dominant as a prep star earning state player of the year honors twice en route to leading his team to a state title his Junior season.
Additional accolades include: All-State honors (3 times) and was also ranked as the 4th best Running Back in the Nation according to Scouts Inc. Clay would arrive at UW with a lot of hype surrounding his tremendous potential.
After Red shirting his Freshman season in 07’ Clay would make an immediate impact in 08’. On the season he would rush the ball 144 times for 845 yards and 9 Touchdowns, solidifying his status as the Badgers running back of the future. He would register three 100 yard games with a career high 112 coming against Indiana on November 8th.
These numbers should only increase as Clay gains more experience and gets more reps which he is certain to earn in the next few years.
After the win at the Champs Sports Bowl in 2009, John Clay announced that he will stay on as the Wisconsin Badgers running back. He will return to Camp Randall as the starter.
