Derek Stepan is a sophomore from Hastings, MN and is the Wisconsin Badgers leading returning scorer. In high school he skated for Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep with fellow Badger Jordy Murray where he contributed greatly to the team attending the 2008 U.S. Youth Nationals Tier-1 18 and Under title. At this game he posted six goals and 13 points in six games. In the 2007-08 season he made great achievements, posting 44 goals and 111 points.

During his freshman year at UW-Madison he finished second on the team with 33 points and 24 assists, leading the Badgers in the final 20 games with 20 points. He ranked fourth among WCHA rookies for his scoring abilities and his 23 points he posted during WCHA games allowed him to tie for third among freshman in the league.
