As a senior offensive lineman for Kimberly High School in Kimberly, WI, Heckner made first team all-state coaches' pick and second team all-state media. He was named conference offensive lineman of the year and helped his team win back-to-back state championships. Heckner also qualified for state his junior year in the shotput.
