Kelly made his debut as a Badger on Aug. 30, 2008 against Akron where he made two tackles. Unfortunately, Kelly suffered a season ending hand injury early in the 2008 season.

Already in the 2009 season, Kelly saw action against Fresno State and tied his career high of two tackles against Wofford on Sept. 19th.

As a high school player in Eden, MN, Kelly was ranked as the number 33rd best defensive end in the country and the 5th best player in Minnesota.
