Mains redshirted the 2008 season and made his debut as a Badger against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5th. During this game, he posted his first career tackle. Mains made another tackle at the Sept. 12th Fresno State game.

Mains hails from Naples, FL where he was ranked the number 16th defensive end in the country and 84th best player by Rivals.com. As a senior he was named player of the year by the Naples Daily News.
