The Wisconsin Badgers football team is part of the Big Ten conference.  Their colors are red and white.  Their mascot is named after the tough-as-nails lead miners of the region from a time gone by.  The badger mascot is 120 years old.  It goes back to the year 1889.

The Wisconsin Badgers play their home games at Camp Randall Stadium.  The stadium was built in 1917, and renovated a number of times since then.  In 2005, Camp Randall stadium underwent its biggest renovation, and now holds over 80,000 fans.  College football fans from across the nation are well aware of the third quarter celebration.  All fans in the stands are encouraged to jump to the music of House of Pain.

Bret Bielema is currently the Badger's coach.  This is his third year, after taking over from Barry Alverez.  Alverez is now athletic director for Wisconsin.  Barry brought the Wisconsin Badgers back to glory starting in 1994, when his team won the Rose Bowl.  He would lead his team to two more Rose Bowl victories before passing the torch on to Bielema in 2006.

The Badgers did attain the rank of number one back in 1952.  They took the Big Ten title that year, and defeated UCLA in the rose bowl.  There were two more trips to the Rose Bowl in 1959, and 1962, but they ended up in losses.  In the decades that followed, Badger fans had little to cheer about.

The Wisconsin Badgers faced the Florida State Seminoles in the 2008 Champs Sports Bowl.  The Seminoles defeated the Badgers by a score of 42-13.  The high flying Florida State team went up against a young Badger quarterback.  Our run-focused offense just couldn't keep up with the pass-focused Seminole team. Badger fans keep the faith, and hope that Bret Bielema can build upon his 28-11 record.

Notable Badger players who went on to play in the NFL include Johnathan Welsh, B.J. Tucker, Jason Pociak, Alex Lewis, and more.  32 former Badgers play in the NFL.  Mark Tauscher was a Badger walk on who now plays for the most famous of all NFL teams, the Green Bay Packers.
