Ohio State football has been around long enough to have celebrated their 800th victory. They played football in Ohio going back to 1890. At that time, they faced another Ohio team for their first victory. The name of the field was Recreation Park. They played nearly .500 football for the first decade, and slowly built up a fan base by playing other local Ohio colleges. Ohio state tickets are always in demand.
Their first conference championship came in 1906. That year, Ohio State lost only one game, and went undefeated in their conference. Within the next twenty years of their first conference championship win, they went on to take the conference title another three times with a 28-5 record in those championship seasons of 1912, 1916, 1917, and 1920. Ohio State tickets were not in demand when the team was losing, but that didn't happen very often.
Ohio State football has won at least two championships in every decade going back to the turn of the century. If one were to highlight a decade where Ohio State dominated, it would be the 1970's. In that time span, they won eight conference championship games.
Certainly, one could say that this decade has been quite good for Ohio Buckeye football fans. Their success makes finding Ohio State tickets harder to find. They climbed to the top of their conference six of the past seven seasons. Jim Tressel has coached the team for going back to 2001, and the results have been great. In that time, he has compiled a 93-21 record.
In 2007 and 2008, Ohio State tried twice to win the BCS championship game. They came up short both times.
