Miller Park is the official home of the Milwaukee Brewers and a staple for entertainment in the area. The stadium was built in the late 1990s and opened in 2001 as a replacement for Milwaukee County Stadium. The park is unique in that it has the only fan-shaped convertible roofed stadium in North America. Though the new stadium is extremely modern with the retractable roof, the turf is mostly natural grass that was transferred from the old County Stadium.
The stadium has a seating capacity just shy of 42,000 fans when full. If you were to drive by the stadium on a game day, you'd think that the stadium was a football venue. Tail-gaiting is tradition in Milwaukee, with many fans setting up grills and games outside in the parking lot prior to the game, even on the coldest spring days.
Miller Park has some other traditions too, including the Klements Sausage race which takes place during each game, in the middle of the sixth inning. The "racing sausages" are the Italian, the bratwurst, the chorizo, the hot dog, and the Polish. Bernie Brewer is the teams mascot and has his own club house above seats in the left field. After each home run, Bernie slides into the "Kalahari Splash Zone" area. This ends in a splash of water onto fans, much like attractions at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. Another fan favorite is the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch.
